É já esta sexta-feira que o aclamado Manuel Sofia aka MOS vem a Portugal para um set arrebatador no LxFactory. Fica aqui uma entrevista em inglês que sairá no próximo número da Visions mag… e em português.
1- Name and home adress
My name is Manuel Sofia. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the place where I was born but I also passed 4 years of my life in Barcelona, Spain.
2- How did everything started? Well… I was lucky because my brother was already a dj before I started so I had the chance to watch at him playing and also access to music it wasn’t easy to get in that time. Hernan Cattaneo gave me as a present my first vinyls, my brother teached me how to play and some short time after I was doing some warm ups on clubs in Buenos Aires.
3-How´s the scene in your country and south america? There are a lot of mainstream events right now and I think the quality went down a little bit but I must confess playing in Argentina is always good for any dj as the crowd is super passionate about music.
4-What do you hear at home and some influences? I listen from Jazz or Bossa to Punk rock… I’m a huge fan of Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths, New Order, Massive Attack, Air, Radiohead… As I’m a big fan of music, melodies and the way of communication music has, I think that influenced me on trying to do more melodic electronic music. Of course I love Techno House from Chicago or Detroit and that influenced me big time on what I do now as well. Everything helped me in some way.
5- What´s your musical style? Well, that’s kind of hard to say. I like many styles of music and I enjoy playing and making them all. I get easily bored so I need to be on constant movement. Anyway my roots are House music, and what I usually do and like comes from there. Techno house, progressive house, tech house, etc… Music it’s music and tagging it’s not what I like the most.
6 -Favourite food and drink? I love eating! I think my favorite meal it’s proper Sushi and Argentinian “Asado” (meat). I like red wine but I don’t drink to much…
5-You have been doing some amazing music for Cattaneo´s Sudbeat, Rennaissance, Natura Sonoris, Flow, etc… any future plans? we heard there´s a future debut album coming… Yeah. Hernan requested me to remix one of his tracks and make an original one for his Parallel Compilation on Renaissance. Aside being a good friend, Hernan is someone I always admire so being asked to do these tracks for him was a big pleasure and honor for me. An Endless Forest (the track I did for his comp) it’s also coming as an ep on Sudbeat with a remix from Robert Babicz as well. As for the album, yes, it’s true, I’m working on it since some time now and that’s the reason why I decided to focus on that and stop making eps for a while. The album will be released on Flow and I hope to have it ready soon! It was an idea I had for a while, then Pena offered me to do it so everything went perfect, the label was interested, I had the idea in my head and now I’m working on it.
6- First time in Portugal? what do you expect and think about? It’s my second time in Portugal. The first one was almost 3 years ago in Porto. I have good friends over there like Pena and Kasey Taylor so I’m excited to go and have some fun in Lisbon. Everybody says amazing stuff of the city and the people so I’m more than happy of having the chance to play there.
7- Your favorite party and country/club to play. This is a hard one. I think I had my best dj experiences in Poland, Argentina and France. I like small clubs, with people full of energy but playing in Love Parade in 2008 or other big festivals it’s also fun.
